Khyber Pass Cafe owners look ahead with rebranded cocktail, dinner concept

The owners of the former Khyber Pass Cafe in St. Paul are joining forces with an accomplished Twin Cities beverage director to bring a new concept for cocktails and dinner to the neighborhood restaurant on Grand Avenue.

New Restaurant Review: Bar Cart Restaurant & Lounge in St. Paul

It's hard not to cheer for the underdogs-the bootstrappers, the dreamers. The team behind Bar Cart Restaurant & Lounge have an incredible track record in restaurants. A couple years ago, I called Ralena Young's cocktails at Tequila Butcher the best drinks I had all year at any restaurant anywhere. She and her business partner, Brian Riess, had worked together for 25 years, most recently at Volstead House in Eagan.

For a Friday Night Escape: Hit St. Paul's New Bar+Cart Lounge and Restaurant

Bar+Cart is the baby of Twin Cities hospitality superstars Ralena Young and Brian Riess, who collectively share decades of experience in the industry, particularly behind the bar. Young is a St. Paul native, and in fact grew up and began her restaurant career in the very same neighborhood as Bar+Cart. It's a real cool neighborhood lounge, a place where you can meet a friend after work, explore a world of phenomenal cocktails, and expect some favorite foods to round out the experience and satisfy those cravings.

So it is on Grand Avenue.

The Best Restaurants in the Twin Cities

We do love a list. Especially at the end of the year, we like to tidy up and take stock of what we've seen (and eaten), yes? It helps ready us to turn the page and begin again. In the past, we've taken the moment of the Best Restaurants issue to make a list heralding all the goodness we see in town, making sure to recognize the stalwarts who have long invested in the eating scene and saving our celebration of new restaurants for a different issue. This year, we shifted a bit.
